On August 20, 2010, my Dad and I are participating in the Great Urban Race again, but, this time, as St. Jude Heroes. We are trying to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital which services children with cancer and other diseases. St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center that never charges for services that are not covered by insurance and they never refuse treatment based on inability to pay.
By the way, this will be the third year that my father and I will be running the race, and the second time as St. Jude Heroes. Last year, we raised $495, and we'd love to raise even more this year.
Here I am dressed as a St. Jude Hero. (I know I look kind of weathered, but it was taken after the race.)
If you are interested in making a donation or learning more about the hospital, please click here. Donations of any amount would be greatly appreciated.
And stay tuned for photos from the race.

Brooklyn Botanic Gardens-May 9, 2011 Part 2
These are the last of my photos from my class at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. I mentioned before that I wasn't too impressed with the class. My teacher really didn't teach me anything that I didn't already know. She did, however, say one thing that stuck in my head: "Expose for the light." She meant that it's okay if only one part of the photo is correctly exposed and the rest is in shadow, because it will show the drama of how the scene really looked. So I really tried to focus on doing that in the last class.
I couldn't decide which of these I like better, so I'm just going to post both:

I was really obsessed with the shadow of the petals on these flower:
I also liked the shadows of the branches on the tree:

Brooklyn Botanic Gardens-May 9, 2011 Part 1
I finally edited my photos from my last class at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. I have a lot of photos, so I am going to break them up into two posts.
I wish the bee were sharper here, but it was really fast.

Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge
For mother's day, my mom and I went out to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, which is part of the Gateway National Recreation Area in Queens. Even though we only walked the flat two mile loop, it took us two hours because we stopped to take so many photos. There were tons of birds. I don't know anything about birds, but, according to what I read, there have been 330 different bird species spotted there in the last 25 years. Here are a few of my favorites.
